Yes I'm still alive •checks pulse•..... yep still alive. ;)

Wow it's been awhile!!

Ironically enough while working on NextGenWars late last year I was tapped to do concept art on a really cool freak'n game, that has since then had it's funding pulled and is now dead. Great experience though. Got to work with some extremely talented people, and learned a lot about the finer details of game creation.

I'll be sharing a pile of this stuff on DA in the coming days, I'm sure by the end of seeing it, most will be saying "okay Ryan, CHRIST, enough!", as there's a lot. So please bare with me. I hope you dig female character concepts!

The game was really a dream project, so I had to divert my attention from the second issue of NGW#2. Unfortunately NGW#1 sold well BELOW what it needed for me to viably keep working on it, but there's enough of it done that I want to finish it, so hopefully it will appear sometime in 2012. Thanks to all who checked it out, hopefully I won't keep you in suspense for too long. ;)

I've also had quite a few people interested in commissions, so I'm going to open up commissions for the next while.

Next Gen Warz#2 & AP cards and other Commision

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 8, 2010, 5:58 AM
Hi folks,

After being away for a month (far far away, like another galaxy far away), I'm finally back in action.

I wanted to thank all those that picked up Next Gen Warz #1. It 's been a fun and entertaining project. My apologies to those still waiting for #2. Some scheduling issues and wanting to keep as high a quality product as possible has lead to some delays in it's production. Being the sole person working on a project has it's draw backs. You will be seeing it in December though. I'm going to throw up some samples from Next Gen Warz #2 here from time to time just so people can still get their NGWZ fix.

Here's the small taste of Next Gen Warz #2...
NGWZ 2 pg.2 by RyanKinnaird

I've also have done some work for Sketchlords recently, and will be posting more of that stuff next month. For the moment here's some card samples from that project.
Sketchlords Samples by RyanKinnaird

I also will be taking commissions for a brief period. I have some Ironman II artist proof cards available that will be going for $120 for a black & white one, or $175 for a color one (this is the first time I've offered color too by the way). I also have some artist proof cards for the sketchlords project I did work for. The characters available for the Sketchlords cards are limited to the ones used in the set. ($110 B&W - $150 color)

FOR INFO ON THE OTHER TYPES OF SKETCHES I OFFER PLEASE SEE THIS PAST JOURNAL ENTRY FOR DETAILS-->ryankinnaird.deviantart.com/jo…

I also have copies of Next Gen Warz #1 for sale. Those who had a hard time finding a copy, can order one directly from me, quantities are limited though. They go for $4 (cover price), I'll of course sign your copy if you so desire. Shipping will be extra.

Stay giga people ;)

NEXT GEN WARZ #1

People who liked my stuff on PSM will want to check it out when it hits comic shops in September. It's a two issue video game comedy/parody mini series (of giga proportions! ;P). It pokes fun at the world of video games, the people that play them and those that make them.

It's about a hardcore gamer, who's next gen console goes in for repair, so he buys a different next gen console. When his original console returns the war is on, and the sparks fly as the two battle to show who is more "giga" (IE: more desirable). The big spin is that the "consoles" are female embodied characters with personalities and lots of attitude ;).

You'll see the two consoles summon developers and video game characters to aid in their quest for superiority. Being that this is a parody, there are no actual real people or franchise characters in the book, but like the consoles, you'll see some female embodied characters that may seem familiar :)

It'll be solicited in next months PREVIEWS catalog (the July issue for stuff shipping in September that is).

Each copy of Issue #1 has two covers, the regular cover and one of two different flip covers (seen above). So you can get a cover that features your favored "console" if you like.

To learn more about this project, I did an interview with NEWSARAMA that you can read here--> www.newsarama.com/comics/image…

It's also on the IMAGE comics page to check out--> www.imagecomics.com/index.php#…

THE ULTIMATE BATTLE FOR DISPOSABLE INCOME BEGINS, AND IT"S GONNA BE GIGA!! ;)

See you in september ;)

For those that are interested, I have some sketchbooks left over from the con. I have copies of Vol.3 and Vol.4 available, though vol.3 had a more limited print run so they are more scarce.

SKETCHCARDs available on EBAY

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 16, 2009, 7:13 PM
The time has once again come to sell some Sketchcard goodness via ebay. These aren't from any set mind you, just me having fun ;p I'll be putting up more from time to time depending when I actually do them. Check'em out if you so desire.

I'm quite happy with how their coming out actually. There's no logo getting in the way of the drawing like with the MM cards so there's more real estate to play with, which is especially important when your dealing with something so freaking small to begin with (remember these sketches are the size of trading cards). The paper I'm using is also a lot more forgiving to erasures, so they stay quite a bit cleaner after I beat the hell out of the paper with a barrage of erasing. The MM cards also had a slight texture printed on them, and I've discovered that I really like plain ol white a lot more for sketching, as any kind of texture can interfere  with shading sometimes.

Any way I digress, a link to the cards auctions can be found in their writeup.

Baby New Year is alive after all

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 21, 2009, 2:16 AM
So there's this thing that's suppose to be all the rage as of late, they call it "09". I seem to have forgotten to have acknowledged that little tidbit so I figured I'd better before the first month is gone :P

Here's hoping that X-mas and New Years was a good one for you all, though I think more people will be taking in heavy amounts of alcohol tonight. A big Congrats to president Obama. I was very glad to see him win it, he had a very uplifting speech today too. He's got his work cut out for him with a war still going on and a economy in the crapper. He won't have a hard time filling such tiny shoes (I don't think the laces were even done up), I guess thats Bush for you, he dodges shoes better than he fits into them. Best of luck to Obama and the rest of my American friends in this year and the next years to come.

I think it's safe to go back to eating "French Fries" now guys.

Updating is FUN!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 13, 2007, 11:35 AM
I thought I'd mess around with some of the setting for how the journal displays stuff. I'm a CSS noob so I used Icyworlds journal editor--> www.icyworlds.net/about/css to generate the code (for those that may want to know).

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if it's possible to change the color of the area outside the journal box? And I've noticed that a few of you have added specific gallery groups (ususally along the left hand side when viewing the main gallery). Anybody got a link to a tutorial on how to do this?

I accidentally got logged out for some reason (the beta version for some reason does this every time I preview my journal), which was not good considering I had'nt logged out ever and did'nt even remember my pw or email attached to my DA account (OOPS!). Thankfully I'm back up and running though (Thanks Maureen!)

Other fun activities have been renovating a house I bought recently. Painting is almost done. Replacing all the doors, baseboards, and casing. Just finished gutting one of the bathrooms which is going to look way cool when it's done. New floors, appliances and furniture are on their way in january.

House stuff and shoveling snow. Gotta love the snow.

BTW, yes I'll be posting some goodies in the next little while.

-Ryan

P.S: Just so I don't have a boring looking journal enrty I'll throw some images from my gallery in here for no particular reason.

Waaaaay back when, there was the idea of having other people draw Dirty Pair stories with Adam Warren at the helm handling the writing chores.

Yuri-Redesign-Character Sheet by RyanKinnaird Kei -Redesign- Character Sheet by RyanKinnaird Dirty Pair color Sketch by RyanKinnaird

The idea was interesting, and I was all aboard for it, as were a few other talents like Ricks Mays, China Major and Terry Dodson to name a few. Unfortunately the project never got a foothold for one reason or another.

Yuri Character sheet by RyanKinnaird Kei Character sheet by RyanKinnaird Dirty Pair designs by RyanKinnaird

During the initial stages, all artists had to submit samples of their work to the original japanese copyright holders for approval. So for my samples I did up these original sequence pages, character sheets, possible new designs, and also sent along a copy of a one-shot comic I did called Mystic Edge.

For those that don't know, Mystic Edge was about two female bounty hunters, set in a world of fantasy and use magic and mysticism to aid them in their adventures. Unfortunately the copyright holders of the DP were somewhat miffed at seeing this little comic of mine, saying I was ripping off the Dirty Pair. (Remember kids, anytime you have two female leads in a project your ripping off the Dirty Pair ;) ), which may have contributed to the lack of interest to the project sadly.

Needless to say the would-be project is long since dead, but at least these few designs and sample pages will get a chance to be seen now. You can tell these are ancient works of mine since I was still using a traditional thick black outline for the characters, (well that, and other things that I won't go into).

What's really sad is that seeing so many different takes on the DP would have been really fun and (gasp!) might have even pushed them into the mainstream more.

Alas, it was never ment to be I guess.

Two of the most common questions I'm asked are "Do you have a website?" and "Do you have a DeviantART page?". Luckily now I can say yes to one of those, though a web page is in the works also, but with sloth like pace for the moment. Once it's at the point of looking more complete I'll be sure to post a link for all to checkout.

Special thanks and shout out to Shon Howell for aiding in getting things rolling for me here, be sure to check out his page King-Cheetah , if you have'nt already done so, Shon is a DeviantART animal.

I actually tried several times in the last few months to signup here, but kept getting the "you are banned" notice. I guess there's a lot of flamers in canada :)

For those not familar with my stuff, I'm a artist who, like most here, dwell in the depths of the digital persuasion. A lot of my notable past work has been with PSM magazine, doing spot illustrations. My most recent notable project was the mini series Phoenix:Legacy of Fire for Marvel comics.

I've also been the colorist on a variety of projects in the past , a lot of these have been for the "800 pound gorilla" of the american manga scene, AdamWarren

The other question I'm asked a lot is "what are you working on now ?". I've been doing various bits of coloring work and doing illustration work for Upperdeck as of late. Future actual projects are a eventual artbook, and a Mystic Edge mini series expanding on the one shot that came out from Antartic Press many moons ago.

Anyways, thanks for checking out my meager offerings at the moment. More is sure to follow.

Best,
-Ryan
